ROOFINGTON PROMOTIONAL CONTEST
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.
1. Sponsor and Administration
This promotional contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored and administered by [SPONSOR FULL LEGAL NAME, e.g. “Roofington Inc.” / numbered company], carrying on business as “Roofington,” with its principal office at [SPONSOR ADDRESS] (“Roofington” or the “Sponsor”). By entering, each entrant agrees to these Official Rules and to the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding in all matters relating to the Contest.
2. Definitions
“Eligible Project” means a qualifying residential roofing replacement project as described in Section 6.
“Game” means the card-suit selection procedure described in Section 7.
“Prize” means the promotional discount certificate described in Section 9.
“Contest Period” has the meaning given in Section 3.
3. Contest Period
The Contest begins on [START DATE] at [TIME] (Eastern Time) and ends on [END DATE] at [TIME] (Eastern Time) (the “Contest Period”). Entries must be received during the Contest Period to be eligible. The Sponsor’s records will be the official timekeeper for the Contest.
4. Eligibility
The Contest is open only to individuals who, at the time of entry, are all of the following:
- legal residents of the Province of Ontario;
- at least eighteen (18) years of age (or the age of majority in Ontario, if higher);
- the owner of residential property located within Roofington’s active service area as described in Section 5; and
- legally capable of entering into a residential roofing contract.
Employees, contractors, sales representatives and authorized agents of the Sponsor, and the immediate family members of and persons domiciled with any of them, are not eligible to enter or win. Limit of one (1) entry per household per calendar year, and a maximum of one (1) Prize per household in any five (5) year period. Entries that are incomplete, illegible, automated, reproduced, forged, or otherwise not in compliance with these Rules are void.
5. Geographic Application
The Contest applies only to residential properties located within Roofington’s active service area, being [DESCRIBE SERVICE AREA, e.g. the Greater Toronto Area / specified municipalities or postal regions]. Prizes are available only in respect of Eligible Projects within that service area, and the Prizes available are not allocated to any sub-region within it.
6. Qualifying Services (Eligible Projects)
A Prize may be applied only to a qualifying residential roofing replacement project performed directly by Roofington, which may include:
- standard architectural shingle roofing systems;
- approved residential metal roofing systems; and
- other residential roofing systems expressly approved in writing by Roofington.
The Contest and any Prize do not apply to roof repairs, commercial roofing, flat-roofing systems, specialty roofing systems, structural engineering work, insurance-funded remediation projects, projects outside Roofington’s normal installation scope, or any project that Roofington reasonably determines cannot be completed using its standard installation methods.
7. How to Enter and the Game
(a) Standard entry. An eligible individual may enter by requesting and receiving an in-home roofing consultation from Roofington during the Contest Period and electing to participate in the Game. No purchase or order is required to enter or to play.
(b) No-purchase (mail-in) entry. An eligible individual may enter without scheduling a consultation by mailing a hand-written request, including the entrant’s full legal name, residential address, telephone number and email address (if available), to: [SPONSOR MAIL-IN ADDRESS], to be received during the Contest Period. No purchase is necessary, and entering by mail does not reduce or improve an entrant’s chance of winning.
(c) The Game. Each eligible entrant selects one (1) of the four standard playing-card suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs or spades. Following a standardized shuffle of a single standard 52-card deck, one card is revealed. If the suit of the revealed card matches the entrant’s selected suit, the entrant is a potential winner, subject to the verification and skill-testing requirements in Sections 10 and 11.
(d) Administration for mail-in entrants. On receipt of a valid mail-in entry, the Sponsor will contact the entrant using the information provided, within [NUMBER] business days, to allow the entrant to select a suit and to conduct the Game by a standardized remote method (for example, supervised telephone or video) that produces the same randomized card draw and 1-in-4 odds as an in-person play. If the entrant cannot be reached after [NUMBER] reasonable attempts within [NUMBER] business days of the Sponsor’s first attempt, the entry may be disqualified.
8. Odds of Winning
Because a standard deck contains four (4) suits in equal proportion, the odds of a revealed card matching an entrant’s selected suit are approximately one (1) in four (4) per eligible play. Each entry is independent; one entrant’s result does not affect another’s. No fact within the Sponsor’s knowledge other than the suit-matching mechanic described in these Rules materially affects an entrant’s chance of winning.
9. Number and Approximate Value of Prizes
Each winning entrant who satisfies these Rules will receive one (1) promotional discount certificate (a “Prize”) applicable to an Eligible Project, in an amount equal to the lesser of (i) twenty-five percent (25%) of Roofington’s quoted price for the Eligible Project and (ii) CAD $2,000. The maximum approximate value of any single Prize is therefore CAD $2,000. The number of Prizes is not capped: the Sponsor will award and honour every Prize won and verified in accordance with these Rules throughout the Contest Period, without undue delay following verification. Because every eligible, verified winning play receives a Prize, the odds stated in Section 8 are not reduced by the number of Prizes already awarded.
10. Mathematical Skill-Testing Question
Before being declared a winner and before receiving any Prize, each selected entrant must, without assistance and within the time allotted, correctly answer a timed mathematical skill-testing question administered by the Sponsor. The question will be a multi-step arithmetic question requiring the correct order of operations (for example: (50 + 25) x 3 – 15 / 5 = ?), to be answered without a calculator, device or other assistance. An entrant who does not correctly answer the skill-testing question will be disqualified and will not receive a Prize.
11. Winner Verification
All potential winners are subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Rules before any Prize is confirmed. The Sponsor may require a potential winner to provide proof of identity, age, residency and property ownership. The Sponsor may disqualify any entrant who does not meet the eligibility requirements, who does not complete required verification, or who tampers with or attempts to manipulate the entry or Game process.
12. Prize Conditions and Restrictions
Each Prize:
- is non-transferable and may not be assigned to any third party;
- is not redeemable for cash and has no cash surrender value;
- may be applied only to qualifying roofing services contracted directly with and performed exclusively by Roofington;
- may not be applied retroactively to work already contracted or completed;
- may not be applied to work performed by competitors or unrelated contractors;
- may not be combined with other discounts or promotions unless expressly authorized in writing by Roofington; and
- must be redeemed on or before the expiry date stated on the certificate, after which it is void.
13. Integrity and Fairness
The Sponsor will administer the Game in a fair, transparent and consistent manner. Sponsor representatives administering the Game may not intentionally alter, predetermine or manipulate any Game outcome after an entrant has selected a suit. The Sponsor reserves the right to audit Game procedures, to document administration for verification and fraud-prevention purposes, and to reject or disqualify suspicious, fraudulent or non-compliant entries.
Where an in-person or supervised play is not reasonably practicable (including for mail-in entrants), the Sponsor may administer the Game by a standardized alternate method (for example, by telephone or supervised video) that preserves substantially equivalent eligibility, odds and Prize availability.
14. Recording, Publicity and Promotional Use
The Sponsor may, where an entrant consents, photograph, audio-record or video-record Game participation conducted at a residential property or other location, and may use an entrant’s name, likeness, voice, statements and participation footage for advertising, marketing, publicity and informational purposes, in any media, without further notice or compensation, except where prohibited by law.
Consent to recording and promotional use is voluntary and is not a condition of entering, playing, or winning. An entrant may decline to be recorded and may still participate and win; in that case the Sponsor may administer the Game by an alternate, non-recorded method under Section 13. All recordings and promotional materials created by the Sponsor remain the Sponsor’s property.
15. Personal Information
Personal information collected in connection with the Contest is collected, used and disclosed only for the purpose of administering the Contest (including entry, verification, Prize fulfillment and, where consented, promotional use), in accordance with applicable privacy law and the Sponsor’s privacy practices. Questions about the handling of personal information may be directed to [SPONSOR PRIVACY CONTACT].
16. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Sponsor is not responsible for: lost, late, delayed, incomplete, misdirected or illegible entries; technical, hardware, software, telephone, internet or communication failures; weather-related or scheduling disruptions; or any other event beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control that affects the administration, security or fairness of the Contest. By entering, each entrant agrees to release the Sponsor and its representatives from any liability arising out of participation in the Contest or the acceptance, use or misuse of any Prize, except where such a release is not permitted by law.
17. Right to Modify, Suspend or Terminate
The Sponsor reserves the right, subject to applicable law, to extend, modify, suspend or terminate the Contest, in whole or in part, if fraud, technical failures, regulatory requirements or any other cause beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity, fairness or proper administration of the Contest.
18. Nature of the Promotion
The Contest is a promotional marketing initiative. It is not a lottery, game of chance for consideration, wager or gaming activity. Entry is free, and every Prize is conditional on the entrant’s correct, unaided answer to a mathematical skill-testing question and on compliance with these Rules.
19. Governing Law
The Contest and these Rules are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada, and each entrant attorns to the courts of Ontario in respect of any dispute relating to the Contest.
20. Acceptance of Rules
By entering or participating in the Contest, each entrant confirms that they have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding.
